How to get started

  • We all want our homes to be as cozy and stylish as possible, but you may think it is a tedious and expensive task. We have some simple step by step tips to get you started on your interior decorating project(s), whether personal or professional.
  • Firstly you should make a list of your project details; this should include: the number of rooms, number of occupants, pets, lifestyle, style of the house, the type of building and the budget.
  • To avoid confusion start with one item at a time and develop on them. Example; how many members are in the family; their ages; their needs, etc. We know that in a large family, everyone needs their own privacy. So we have to take into consideration the bathroom area, to decide how many showers, baths, basins and toilets to be installed.
  • When deciding on your project, to do everything you must consider the style of the house to effect the result you want to get. You must determine whether the style you want to achieve should be long or short term before you begin. The type of windows, doors and floors, and the overall construction of the building, including the number of stories should be ascertained. Use the available space wisely by selecting the ideal size appliances, furniture and fixture.
  • Very importantly, when making your plan, you must ensure that the budget you are working with is realistic and able to cover the cost of your project. For long term decorating, acquiring durable and quality materials, fixtures and furniture is advisable. You may think that purchasing cheaper stuff will be more costly, but durability and good quality selections will prevent you repurchasing before you plan to redecorate in the future.
  • When selecting colors for the different rooms, think about the persons who use these rooms. Are there babies in the home; teenagers, pets, etc? Colors should be selected based on the taste and lifestyle of the occupants. All rooms should be cozy and comfortable, but we suggest that the rooms that are most used should be bright and cheery. Imagine a family room or den that is gloomy, dreary and dark. The lighting fixtures must be placed in appropriate areas, especially in hallways, kids’ bedrooms, libraries, kitchens, bathrooms and family rooms.
  • Knowing about the occupants is a very good idea. We wouldn’t want to decorate with materials that cause allergic reaction to the occupants of the home. This is not always avoidable, but should be taken in to consideration, especially when selecting carpets, fabrics, flowers for floral arrangements and other materials that may cause allergic reactions. Try as best as possible to use materials and fixtures that are safe for the entire family.

Doing all this will get you on your merry way to making interior decorating as easy as ABC. Get started. Whether you do it for personal or professional reasons, decorating should be fun, especially when working with the right color scheme, fixtures, furniture and other materials that is satisfactory both to you and/ your clients.
